Will my child's phone work with Code9? What phones are supported?
Code9 Mobile works with most Android and BlackBerry smartphones on all carriers. For Android, the phone must be running Android OS 2.0 or later (most phones are). For BlackBerry, we are supporting BlackBerry OS 5.0 and later. If you are not sure if your phone is supported, you can install and configure the phone without paying anything - we only charge once you are sure your phone will work!
What do I need to install the Code9 Mobile?
To install Code9 Mobile on your child's phone you will need to have your child's phone in front of you.
You can download the application on-line after signing up here. Once you have downloaded the file, it takes only a couple of minutes to install the application on your phone(s). All configuration of the phone is done through our website, so you only need the phone in your hands for the initial installation.
What does Code9 (CD9) mean?
Code9 is texting slang, commonly abbreviated as CD9, meaning "parents are watching".
How do I know my data is safe with you, and that no one will be able to have access to it?
Will you re-sell my data or personal information to a third party?
Will my child know that Code9 Mobile is on their phone?
Yes. Code9 Mobile is not spyware. Our vision is that you and your child will have a discussion about your family's rules for cell phone usage. We promote a Family Privacy and Mobile Phone Use Policy and open communication between parents and children in an effort to encourage and promote responsible behavior.
Can my child remove the software from their phone?
Yes. No cell phone is completely immune to tampering. This is one reason we recommend a "cell phone is on" and the application is running rule, as part of your Family's Privacy and Mobile Phone Use Policy. An important part of this, of course, is consequences that make sense for your family. Through our website you will be able to monitor if the phone is communicating with our servers. If it's been more than a reasonable amount of time, we recommend you confirm that the application is still on your child's phone.
What are Curfews?
Curfews are set periods of time when calls and text messages are not relayed to the phone, unless the person is on a "white list". During these curfew times, such as school, dinner or homework, the messages are queued (held), and then delivered after the curfew has passed. This ensures that curfews are maintained as quiet (non-phone) times, but also that your child does not miss any messages completely—something very important to most kids.
Can you give me help creating Alert Words?
Code9 Mobile has a database of common alert words, which is constantly being augmented as more and more words are entered by parents. Additionally, if you are concerned about particular topics, such as bullying, stalking, etc, Code9 Mobile can suggest alert word rules for you to apply to the phones in your account.
How does the GPS work and how closely can you pinpoint the child's location?
Location information is obtained from the phone and depends largely on the phone's capabilities. To preserve battery life, Code9 Mobile uses cell phone towers and wifi access points to determine a general location (normally within a few hundred feet) throughout the day. If, at any point, you need a more accurate location you can "ping" the phone, which will use GPS to find the phone's location to as close as 30 feet.
Will my child be able to later see messages they received during curfews?
Yes, your child will be able to see all messages received during curfew times—with the one exception being the case where the message sender resides on a "black list" that you define. Conversely, any person on a "white list", such as a parent or nanny, will always have their messages delivered, even if it is during curfew—thereby ensuring that no emergency calls are missed.
What if I'm not happy with Code9 Mobile? What is your cancellation policy?
At Code9, your satisfaction is our highest concern. If you are not 100% satisfied at any time, simply contact us and we will do our best to resolve any issues with our service. If you do decide to cancel your account, you can do that at any time with a few clicks through our website.
If you cancel during your trial period, your card will not be billed. After you have made a payment, cancelling will stop all future credit card billing. Your account will remain active until the end of the period you have paid for, and you can easily resume your subscription at any time.
